Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions people actually ask before choosing an advisor. If yours isn't here, ask us directly. Complete information about our services, fees, and business practices is in our Form ADV brochure.

Is Long Point Wealth Management a fiduciary?

Yes. Long Point Wealth Management, LLC is an independent, fee-only registered investment advisor, and we serve as a fiduciary to every client. Our duty of loyalty runs to you. We are paid only by our clients: no commissions, no product sales, no revenue sharing, and no performance fees.

How much does Long Point Wealth Management charge?

One transparent annual fee, billed monthly in arrears on the average daily balance of your accounts, applied on a tiered-incremental basis. Rates range from 1.00% on the first $500,000 down to 0.70% on assets over $5 million, and each rate applies only to the assets within its tier. Custodian transaction charges and the internal expenses of funds and ETFs are separate third-party costs. Complete fee information is in our Form ADV.

Is there a minimum account size?

No. Long Point does not impose a minimum account size to establish a relationship, and there is no fee to begin a conversation.

What is included in the fee besides investment management?

Ongoing financial planning is included, not billed separately: retirement and cash flow projections, education and charitable planning, insurance analysis, and personal tax planning considerations. Estate planning documents are also included through the Wealth.com platform. Long Point pays that platform's licensing cost, so clients pay no additional advisory fee for document preparation.

Do you really provide estate planning documents?

Yes. Clients receive access to Wealth.com, a digital estate planning platform, where they can prepare wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives through a guided process, reviewed as part of the overall plan. Optional services such as notarization or consultations with attorneys in Wealth.com's network carry their own costs payable to Wealth.com. Wealth.com is unaffiliated with Long Point and pays Long Point nothing.

Where are you located, and who can you work with?

The firm is based in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. Long Point is state-registered in Massachusetts and New Jersey and serves clients throughout the United States, consistent with applicable state registration requirements and exemptions. Most client work happens by video and phone, so geography is rarely a limitation.

What does active risk management actually mean?

It means the portfolio is watched and adjusted rather than left on autopilot. We maintain a disciplined macro framework to understand the current environment, we document a thesis for every holding, and we hold uncorrelated strategies and hedges intended to provide stability during periods of market stress. The aim is that risk is deliberate, sized appropriately, and aligned to what your plan actually requires. It is not day trading and it is not buy-and-forget: core positions are held with a long-term view, and we work around them by rebalancing, trimming, adding, and repositioning when the regime or factor environment shifts. All investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal.

How do you decide how much risk is right for me?

The financial plan comes first. We build your financial picture, which tells us the return your goals actually require, and that becomes the anchor for the risk conversation. We ask how you feel about specific tradeoffs only after that context exists, rather than assigning a portfolio from a questionnaire score.

Who holds my money?

Your assets are held in your own accounts at Charles Schwab, the independent qualified custodian. Long Point never takes custody of client funds or securities, apart from the authorized deduction of advisory fees. You receive statements directly from Schwab.

What happens when I first reach out?

A conversation, with no fee and no obligation. We learn your situation, goals, and time horizon. If it looks like a fit, we build your financial plan, and only then do we discuss how we would invest for you. An advisory relationship begins only if and when you sign an agreement.

How can I check your background and disclosures?

Long Point's Form ADV brochure is available on this site and at the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website, adviserinfo.sec.gov, by searching the firm name or CRD number 313540. We provide the brochure to everyone considering working with us.
